The Most Common Causes for Display Stripes

1. Defective Graphics Card (GPU) - The Most Common Cause

One of the most common causes for stripes on the screen is a defective graphics chip (GPU). This can be caused by overheating, faulty production, or water damage.

Important note about repair: Some repair shops only offer a so-called "reflow". In this process, the existing chip is heated to restore the solder connections. This is often only a temporary solution, and the problem can recur after a short time.

Explicitly request not a reflow, but a complete chip replacement (reballing), where the defective chip is replaced with a new one.

2. Damaged Display Cables (Flexgate)

The connection between logic board and display can be damaged by a fall or repeated opening/closing. This often shows as horizontal stripes that appear or disappear when moving the display.

3. Corroded Contact Points

Water damage can cause contact points to corrode, leading to color errors or irregular lines. Professional cleaning and repair is required here.

4. Defective Display Panel
