Display repair

Stripes, black screen, Flexgate, Staingate or glass breakage: we analyze for free and come back with a quote. We stock replacement displays for most models.
Common display problems
- Flexgate (MacBook Pro 2016–2019): broken display flex cable, "stage light" effect, stripes depending on opening angle. Apple's program has expired; we repair the cable.
- Staingate: anti-reflective coating peeling off, milky patches. We carefully remove the layer.
- Glass breakage: cracks or fractures from drops or pressure. Often leads to black spots.
- Dustgate, pressure damage, backlight failure: rare, but we know the fault patterns.

Logic board repair
MacBook won't start, freezes at the Apple logo, shows a question mark, or shuts off on its own? We work at chip level and replace only what's actually faulty. from €100
If your MacBook won't start, crashes, or shows exclamation marks, the logic board is often where the problem sits. Instead of swapping the whole board, we work at the chip level. Only the faulty component gets replaced. That's typically 60–70% cheaper than a board swap, and on modern Macs your SSD is soldered to that same board, so the data hangs on it too.
Typical signs of a logic board defect
- MacBook won't start, stays black, no sound, no response
- Apple logo freezes, question-mark folder or exclamation mark at boot
- Random crashes, fans at full speed with no load
- Battery won't charge, USB-C ports dead
- MacBook overheating: constantly high temperatures, loud fans without load, sudden shutdowns. Often indicates thermal paste replacement or a defective chip on the logic board, not just a software problem.
- Wi-Fi not working: MacBook won't connect, can't see networks, internet drops. The Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card sits on the logic board and can be replaced, even on soldered models.

Three logic-board jobs, three different stories
- MacBook Pro 15", charging issue: Quote elsewhere was €500 for a new board. Our diagnosis: defective SMC chip. Chip swap plus a new power port, €180.
- MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro: wouldn't turn on, booted intermittently. Logic-board repair with file-system recovery, €340.
- MacBook Air 13": wouldn't start after sitting unused for two weeks. Battery deep-discharged: no swap needed, just recalibration for €120.

Repair costs after free analysis
- under €200: fast response with no water reaching the display, ultrasonic and interior cleaning of top case and logic board
- €200–300: salt water or delayed reaction with corrosion, intensive cleaning, replacement of small parts/ports, or simple logic-board repair
- €400–500: extensive damage to logic board or display, depending on whether the logic board and display can be salvaged

Four out of five water-damaged Macs we get running again, usually with all the data still on them. The catch: the device has to come to us promptly and stay off until it does. Every "let's just see if it boots" hurts the odds.
Why rice doesn't help
The rice trick comes from simple mobile phones. On modern MacBooks it's not just useless but harmful: rice dust gums up the keyboard, can't reach moisture beneath BGA chips, and costs 48 hours during which corrosion spreads exponentially. What actually works: 99.9% isopropanol, ultrasonic bath, vacuum chamber.
Water damage by MacBook model
- MacBook Air/Pro M1–M5 (2020–2025): Unified memory means total damage often equals data loss. Fast reaction critical. Up to 80% success rate.
- MacBook Pro with Touch Bar (2016–2020): Touch Bar highly sensitive, T1/T2 chip can completely lock on water damage. Butterfly keyboard blocks even with a few drops. €400–700.
- MacBook 12" (2015–2017): Extremely vulnerable, liquid spreads immediately.
- Older MacBook Pro (pre-2016): Thicker casing, better repairability, often under €400.

Battery replacement
macOS suggests a battery swap, the MacBook only runs on mains, or the case is bulging? Swollen batteries push the keyboard and trackpad up from below and can become dangerous. Best replaced sooner rather than later. from €160
Swollen battery? Trackpad stuck? Runtime dramatically dropped? These are clear warning signs of a defective battery that should be replaced immediately.

If the battery is swollen: power off immediately, disconnect power adapter, don't charge. A swollen battery can become dangerous.

Our batteries
After too many problems with inferior batteries, we have our own cells manufactured, with high cobalt content for long life. Procurement costs us more. You get batteries that come close to original Apple cells.
Battery swaps in practice: three cases
- MacBook Pro 16", stuck trackpad: swollen battery pushing the trackpad up from below. Swap, €240.
- MacBook Pro 13" (2010), charging issue with a fresh battery: charge port was also gone. Battery and port together, €230.
- MacBook Air 13", shutting down off mains: file-system cleaned up, battery replaced. €220, same-day turnaround.

Graphics repair
Regular crashes, stripes or patterns on the display, mostly under load or when the device runs hot? On Intel MacBook Pros we replace the graphics chip on its own, no need to swap the whole logic board. from €200
This section focuses on Intel MacBook Pro with a separate graphics chip. For GPU problems the entire logic board is usually replaced. We repair at the chip level: defective graphics chips, cold solder joints, damaged voltage regulators. That's cheaper than a full board swap and your data stays intact.

Our BGA rework station
We replace defective graphics chips at chip level with an Ersa HR 600 rework station: camera alignment, controlled hot air, precise temperature curves. The new chip lands on the board with sub-millimeter precision.
GPU repairs from the workshop
- MacBook Pro 15" (2018), no picture despite startup chime: defective AMD Radeon. GPU swap, €240.
- MacBook Pro 16" (2019), already cleaned elsewhere: the typical weak spot of this series had already been touched once. We recommended a used logic board (i7/16GB/512GB) plus top case for €600.

Special characters, shortcuts & Mac keyboard layout
Square brackets, backslash, pipe, tilde, Apple logo: there's a shortcut for everything (e.g. Option+5/6 for square brackets on German layout, Option+Shift+7 for backslash). But when a key no longer responds at all, no shortcut helps. That's a hardware problem, which we repair.
Keyboard, trackpad, speaker: three cases
- MacBook Pro 14", coffee damage abroad: already "repaired" on holiday with questionable donor parts. Full top case plus logic-board work, €560.
- MacBook Pro 13", oat milk in the coffee: customer powered off straight away, best possible reaction. Top case, logic-board cleaning, logo-bar swap, €440.

Most of the time we avoid the expensive full top-case swap entirely. Keyboard isolated and replaced, trackpad swapped on its own, broken speakers desoldered and refitted. The original housing of your MacBook stays in place.

Data recovery

Data recovery on M1–M5 (Apple Silicon)
On Apple Silicon (M1 through M5) the flash storage is soldered to the logic board and hardware-encrypted via the SoC. Pulling the storage chips off gets you nothing. Without the matching SoC, that chip is a dead block. The only path: repair the board far enough that the system boots again. Applies to every Pro and Air model across the entire M-series.
Data recovery on T2 MacBooks
T2 MacBooks also have hardware-encrypted storage. Here too we need logic-board repair. In up to 70% of cases we manage to repair the logic board far enough to enable full data recovery.
Water-damage data recovery
Coffee, water, or other liquids damage the logic board. We clean with ultrasonic and repair precisely at component level, often successful even with severe damage.
