What is a Topcase on a MacBook? – Meaning, Function and Replacement Simply Explained
A topcase includes keyboard, trackpad, speakers and sometimes the battery of a MacBook. Many of these components are glued or riveted, which is why Apple standardly provides for replacement of the entire topcase – a procedure that is logistically simpler but also more expensive. In practice, however, often only individual components are affected, for example after water damage or mechanical defect. With the necessary expertise and experience, it is possible to specifically replace only defective parts like the keyboard or trackpad without having to replace the complete topcase. This saves costs and avoids unnecessary electronic waste.
